Why three titles? They are often used similarly; visit our FAQ page to learn more. Medical massage focuses on injured or damaged muscle groups bringing effective, long lasting relief, repair, and new vitality to them. This therapy includes stretching, heat, trigger point, myofascial, kinesio taping, and other specialized techniques together in a planned treatment designed to restore muscle tonicity and allow muscles to repair and work for your again. We will work with the brain (neuro) and the muscles as they work together to bring healing. First, to decrease swelling and pain, then to increase range of motion (your ability to move), and finally incorporate strengthening of weak areas to bring you as close to complete recovery as possible. Our techniques appear slow in the beginning; however usually bring a much faster recovery than many treatments used by other facilities. Please be aware that this type of massage is a much more interactive therapy than massage from a spa. We will be working together therefore more conversation and feedback is required. *Therapists for this treatment have more extensive training. Most often Medical massage is prescribed by a medical Dr. – Dr.s prescription required.

Therapeutic Massage
The works is a unique combination of several massage techniques including neuro-muscular, trigger point, myofascial, shiatsu, cranial sacral, and other specialized techniques strategically combined to bring lasting relief. Discover how this treatment can restore muscle tonicity and encourage muscles to repair, bringing lasting relief from aches and pains. Visit
our FAQ page to learn more about the techniques and terms used here. “The Works” focuses on particularly stressed muscle groups deeply affecting them and melting away tension and soreness. With pain-free techniques “The Works” concentrates on restoring balance to the body but may not be a balance treatment. What do I mean? Many people experience stress that causes the shoulders to elevate closer to the head and for many (let’s say a right handed person) the right shoulder can elevate more than the left. This treatment may then work more on the right, to restore balance to the shoulders and decrease (or relax) the uneven shoulder to a normal and balanced position. Once balance is restored the body you will enjoy ultimate relaxation as your body is able to function the way it was created. Hot stones are often used in this massage to help the nervous system solidify the new, relaxed muscle state, an experience that will leave you saying “Wow!” Dr.’s prescription NOT needed.
Deep Tissue/Sports Massage
Sports massage was originally developed to help athletes prepare their bodies for optimal performance, recover after a big event, or function well during training. Sports massage emphasizes prevention and healing of injuries to the muscles and tendons. Anyone who routinely stretches their physical limits through movement such as running, cycling, swimming, dancing, and other sports including golfing, strength training and aerobics can benefit from high quality body work (aka massage). There are others who do strenuous activities in a day such as mothers with small children, gardeners, construction workers, and others who use their bodies strenuously in their work. Massage helps you get into good shape faster, with less stiffness and soreness, and helps you recover faster from heavy workouts.

Each sport and athletic event uses muscle groups in a different way. Relief Zone therapists are familiar with each muscle, the muscle groups and how they are affected by the specific movements and stresses of sports. They also are trained in the appropriate uses of hydrotherapy and cryotherapy. Sports massage is focused accessing the soft tissue of particularly stressed muscle groups deeply and effectively. Most of our athletes prefer “the Works” as routine maintenance body work and use sports massage immediately before and after and event.
Kinesio Taping

Want the secret weapon of elite athletes such as Kerri Walsh? Try Kinesio taping, and enjoy your favorite sport, even when injured. Kinesio taping techniques for muscle pains have been used by specialists for over 25 years. It is known to bring relief and speed healing of injured muscles, joints, and even bones. However, not all taping techniques are effective since there are some that are said to worsen the condition instead of alleviate it, causing some doubts about the use of taping techniques. Be sure you’re getting the patented Kinesio® Tex tape by a specialist who knows how it works and the best way to apply it.

The 2008 Olympics gave rise to the popularity of a Kinesio® taping technique that was developed in 1973 by Dr. Kenzo Kase. It was developed based on the premise that taping techniques should not hinder normal body movements even in the event of muscle injuries. This technique is called the Kinesio® taping technique using what is now known in athletic circles as the Kinesio tape. World-renowned athletes like Lauren Wenger (water polo), Tiger Woods (golf), Lance Armstrong (cycling), David Beckham (soccer), Kerri Walsh (beach volleyball), and Ari Taub (Greco-Roman wrestling) and a whole lot more prefer the Kinesio taping technique over any other taping techniques since they are able to give a lot more benefits than the traditional tapes. Why? Because conventional taping methods are designed to restrict movement, not to promote it and are generally wrapped around an injury then removed after any activity. Kinesio tape, on the other hand, is used before, during, and after the activity. Kinesio Tape is designed to be the same thickness and elasticity of the skin so the body is supported rather than restricted. To date, the Kinesio taping method is found to be the most effective tape for a variety of ailments, from foot pain to headaches, knee injuries to whiplash, and many other ailments including the reduction of swelling. Kinesio Taping continues to receive a lot of praises from people who want to maintain their active lifestyle without pain and possible injury.
Other additional benefits of the Kinesio taping method are:
1. It is very economical since a roll of it can be used for about ten (10) applications depending on the area that needs to be protected.
2. It stays on up to 5 days.
3. Is water-resistant.
4. It has almost the same texture as normal human skin.
5. It is latex-free.
6. It is made from 100 percent cotton.

During a summer camp out I slid down a steep hill and injured my knee, I heard it pop and it seemed a little unstable but didn’t begin to hurt for several hours. In the middle of the night I woke to sever pain and tremendous swelling. I contacted a doctor, had x-rays and scheduled with an orthopedic, no problems were found, so we scheduled an MRI, of course this process was lengthy and the pain was so great I could barely tolerate it. Then, I found Kinesio tape and was amazed at the relief I experience, it out performed the brace I’d been wearing and even the pain medications I’d been taking. To say I’m impressed is an understatement. Following that experience I began taping my low back and was equally amazed as was my sister in-law who has rods in her low back and is now experiencing some relief. We are more than grateful for Kinesio tape and the right techniques.
We see a variety of clients in our office from sports enthusiasts to the weekend warrior, pre-surgery to post surgery, and
